I, Sarah Usary, turn 29 on Saturday, July 8th. All I want for my birthday is to spend the day doing river rat nonsense on the Potomac. Please join us at any point of the day.

CARPOOL INFO

For folks traveling from DC/Virginia, please feel free to meet us at my house in Sterling to work out a carpool situation. You can arrive around 10am. We will leave promptly at 11am.

Street parking is available on Magnolia and Blossom. Some of the parking spots in the neighborhood are labeled “visitor” or have no label—you can park in these spots, but they are monitored from 11pm-7am, so you could be towed if you plan to stay the night. Do not park in a spot with a number.

Please let us know if you are interested in being a DD or need a ride because you’re going to be the opposite of a DD.

TUBING INFO

We’re going to do white water tubing on the Potomac through River Riders for 12:30pm. Info can be found and reservations can be made here:

IMPORTANT: It’s $43 if you need to rent a tube, but if your own your own tube, you can call or make a reservation in person for a cheaper rate of $30. This rate isn’t online so you have to call!

Make sure you complete the waiver in advance and arrive at River Riders by noon to check in.

ALSO IMPORTANT: Make you have a bag that FULLY CLOSES for drinks/food and some rope if you are planning on bringing a floating cooler. We aren’t gonna litter the Potomac on my watch! Everything must be sealed and tied up in case your cooler takes a dunk. Make sure you have a bag to store trash as well! And sunscreen! And please don’t use DEET bug spray in the river! It kills the fishes.

BASS ROCK INFO

If you can’t go tubing but still want to meet up on the River, I think we’ll hit Bass Rock around 2:30-3:30pm. I’m gonna keep my phone in a water tight box, so you should be able to text me.

IF YOU ARE A NOT A WV/WESTERN MD LOCAL—text me for the deets on Bass Rock. Parking at Potoma Wayside is basically non-existent on weekends and VERY VERY crowded. Make sure you bring a trash bag to pack out any cans/trash!

HARPERS FERRY BREWING INFO

After tubing, we’re gonna swing by Harpers Ferry Brewing for food. ETA 5pm-5:30pm.

AFTER-PARTY

If anyone wants to spend the night or swing by the house for a fun lil drink and a tiny little fire on the deck, I think we’ll be back around 7:45-8pm! Address and parking info is above in the Carpool section.

An approximate itinerary is below:

10:30am—If you want to carpool with others from Virginia, meet at our house.

11:00am—Depart from Sterling for Harpers Ferry

12:00pm—Arrive at River Riders and sign in for tubing

12:30pm—Whitewater Tubing on the Potomac

2pm-3pm (approximately)—Tube by Bass Rock and jump into the water like we still have the joints of a 20-year-old (we will hurt on Sunday)

4:00-4:30pm—Exit the river and retrieve our cars (please have one designated driver per vehicle)

5pm-5:30pm—Head to Harpers Ferry Brewing, eat some Pizza, enjoy the views

7:00pm—Head back to Sterling with ETA of 7:45pm, feel free to spend the night or stop by for a little after-party-back-deck-fun-little-drink-sipping
